Termites

The Frightening Statistics

CSIRO statistics reveal that almost one out of three Australian homes have termites living on their property and one in five home have been or will be infested with termites over the lifetime of the home. Termites also cause more damage to homes in Australia than FIRE, FLOOD AND STORMS. Whilst Insurance Companies will insure your home for Fire Flood and Storms, there is no insurance company in Australia who insures for termite infestation or termite damage.

The common saying is there are only two types of houses in Australia – the ones that already have termites and those that will eventually get them. At Hibbett’s Pest Control PL we know there’s another to add to the list – those homes that have been protected by Hibbett’s highly trained Termite Technicians using state of the art inspection methods and world leading termite chemical brands.

Subterranean termites infest homes via areas including cracks in concrete slabs and through expansion joints. The damage termites cause to unprotected homes in Brisbane can result in enormous repair bills with the average cost being $7000 to over $100,000 in more severe cases.

Protect their colonies from predators

To protect their colonies from predators, heat and humidity, worker termites make tunnels to travel back and forth from their nest and their feeding source – which may well be the structural timbers of your home. Termites can forage in any given direction up to 100 metres from their nest.

Brisbane homeowners have a love for the outdoor lifestyle and that means landscaping of gardens, including the use of chip bark and mulch, timber retaining walls and timber structures such as pergolas. This has created a haven for termites on our properties and also in our homes.

For most people, the most important asset is their home, therefore, it is paramount to ensure termite protection. Hibbett’s Pest Control PL have been protecting our client’s homes for over 28 years.

TERMITE INSPECTIONS

Having an annual termite inspection conducted on your home by one of Hibbett’s Pest Control PL qualified Termite Technicians is one of the most important decisions a homeowner can make. A termite inspection will give you peace of mind that your home is free from termite infestation. In the event termites are found, a treatment program can be undertaken to eradicate all activity.

Hibbett’s highly trained Technicians will inspect your home using the latest inspection equipment including sounding tools, moisture meter and thermal imaging camera.

Inspection of roof void

Termites may be subterranean however they will make their way into the roof structure via the timber framing in a matter of months. Hibbett’ technicians will inspect the roof void timbers and will check for possible water leaks at the same time.

Sounding Equipment

All window frames, door frames, skirting boards are thoroughly inspected for possible termite infestation or evidence of termite damage. Often, termites will eat the framing timber only to leave the thin layer of paint, which can go unnoticed until touched.

Moisture Meter

As part of their inspection, Hibbett’s Termite Technicians use a moisture meter to detect possible high moisture readings in walls. This may be from leaking showers, or wet areas on the external walls of the house. Termites are attracted to wet areas in and around the home.

Thermal Imaging Camera

Finding “hot spots” on plaster walls in homes may be signs of termite activity behind the wall. It may also be a sign there’s a water leak from a pipe or tap. The thermal imaging camera is a vital tool in locating possible termite infestations behind walls that would otherwise go unnoticed.

INSPECTION OF THE EXTERNAL AREAS OF THE HOME

The inspection of the external areas of the home is of the utmost importance. Many residents make the mistake of storing items against the external walls of their home which often results in undetected termite entry. Termites will build their mud leads up between paths and attempt to make ingress through the brickwork, often using weep holes as entry points.

Hibbett’s trained Termite Technicians will inspect all external areas of your home. Including highly susceptible areas such as weep holes, cracks in concrete or mortar and behind structures such as garden sheds.

Many homes are constructed with a physical mesh termite barrier as the only form of termite protection. Mesh termite barriers do not repel or kill termites; instead mesh barriers are designed to expose termites. Should the termites breach the mesh barrierand this go unnoticed by the home owner or tenant, this may result in catastrophic termite damage.

Homes built on stumps or homes with built in subfloor walls are deemed extremely high risk of termite infestation.

These areas are often low to the ground and hard to access.

Termites will build large mud leads up the brickwork from the soil areas and continue to make ingress into the flooring and walls of the home.

Hibbett’s Termite Technicians will ensure that homes with subfloors are inspected thoroughly and this includes all internal brickwork, ant capping, timber bearers and structural beams.

INSPECTION OF ALL PROPERTY - TREES, STUMPS, FENCES, LANDSCAPING TIMBERS

Hibbett’s Termite Technicians know the importance of inspecting all areas of your property, from the front fence to the back fence, every inch is inspected for possible termite infestation. Termites found on the property mean the house is highly susceptible to termites as well. If there is no termite treatment installed to the home, it will only be a matter of time before your home becomes another termite statistic.

A comprehensive termite inspection report is provided upon completion

The termite inspection reports details the following information:

  • Areas inspected
  • Whether termite activity and / termite damage was found during the inspection
  • Areas where wood decay was found ie. tree stumps, timber decking etc
  • Any water leaks noted ie broken downpipes, leaking hot water system or air conditioning units
    – All of which are environmental conditions which create conducive conditions for termites
  • Whether previous termite treatments were noted and are they still current or expired
  • The potential risk of overall future termite infestation to the home and property
  • Finally – a quotation is supplied with a detailed installation diagram of the home in the event a termite treatment is considered to be recommended
  • Hibbett’s Termite Inspection Reports are emailed to our clients as PDF documents

Termite Protection

Once our trained Technicians have conducted a thorough termite inspection on your home, they will determine the most effective termite management treatment to ensure long lasting termite protection.

The most effective termite treatment method is to install a chemical treated zone which will create a protective perimeter around your home in order to prevent termite infestation. This proactive measure offers long-term protection against potential termite infestations, ensuring your home remains termite-free.

At Hibbett’s Pest Control PL,  we prioritise using BASF Termidor SC and BASF Termidor HE – High Efficiency for termite control.  We will not use generic alternatives – and in fact there is no generic equivalent to BASF Termidor products.

Termidor HE – High Efficiency has an advanced polymer technology which ensures comprehensive coverage while allowing for wider 600mm drill hole spacings to tiled and concrete areas. BASF Termidor High Efficiency is the only chemical on the world market that allows for 600mm drill hole spacings. This patented technology allows Hibbett’s Technicians to not only safeguard your home from termites but do so leaving the most aesthetic finish around your home.

BASF Termidor is applied to the soil areas surrounding your home or structure. The chemical has the genuine transfer effect that uses the typical characteristics of termites communicating by touch to transfer the active molecule back to the colony, hence eliminating all current termite activity and future re-infestation.

A crucial advantage Termidor has over many other products is that it doesn’t repel termites.

Termites can’t detect Termidor so, as they continue to forage through the soil, they unknowingly come into contact with Termidor. Termites are social insects that live together in large colonies. Termites that come into contact with Termidor soon pass it on to others. Even those secondarily affected termites can also pass Termidor on through feeding or contact.

Hibbett’s technicians will provide obligation free termite treatment plans for your home. We take the time to explain the treatment installation process from start to finish.

Follow up inspections will ensure your home remains free of termite infestation and ensure no conducive conditions have been created in and around the home.
